Tuesday Talk: Mascara Advice Needed!!

Hi!! Happy Tuesday!!
So- I feel like I have already shared this several times- but in case you didn't already know- I LOVE makeup. If I had a "free" budget- I don't even want to know the kind of damage that I would do at places like Ulta and Sephora- and who I am kidding- in the cosmetics aisles at Target and Walmart too! HA!
I do my makeup EVERY day. I would say every couple of weeks- there will be a day where I skip doing my "full" face- but even on those days I put on foundation, powder and some bronzer.
Anyway....with my love of makeup comes my love for trying out new products. And the latest product I am on the hunt for is a new mascara. I have several mascaras I have used and really love- but I am wondering if any of you might have a mascara that YOU love and that I NEED to know about?!? :)

So these 4 mascaras have been in a regular rotation for me for the last 3-5 years. As you can see, they are all "drug-store" mascaras and none of them cost over $10- which is an absolute must for me and my beauty budget :)

//1// Covergirl Lash Blast Volume Mascara: My mom put this mascara in my Christmas "box" several years ago and I really liked it! I feel like it made my lashes thick and it didn't get flaky as the day went on. If I HAD to pick though- this mascara would be my least favorite of the four.
//2// Avon SuperShock Mascara: This mascara has been my "go-to" for the past several years. I LOVE it. I love the brush, I love the price (it goes on super sale) and I feel like it does a great job of lengthening and plumping up my lashes- which is really important to me- since I was not blessed with the best lashes- insert a big thumbs down here! HA!
//3// Maybelline Volum Express The Falsies Mascara: My friend Johannah recommended this mascara to me- her husband's cousin (did I get that right Johannah?!?) is a makeup artist and he highly recommends it! I REALLY like this mascara...I felt like it did an awesome job lengthening my lashes. As far as volume goes- I felt like my lashes still needed a little "oomph" after I put it on. But overall- this is a mascara I will definitely buy again!
//4// L'Oreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara: April recommended this mascara to me- and I LOVED it. I would say it tied with my favorite SuperShock mascara from Avon in how well it plumped and lengthened my lashes.

I don't know if I am a total weirdo for doing this- but I actually like to layer with a couple different kinds of mascara....and my favorite "combo" these past few months have been my Falsies mascara and my Extra Volume Collagen mascara!

I recently bought this Elf Professional Studio Volume Plumping Mascara on a whim- it is only $3- but unfortunately- I was NOT impressed with it. I have loved all of the other e.l.f. products I have bought- but this mascara is a thumbs down for me. For me- it doesn't seem to matter how many coats of this mascara I put on my lashes....it just doesn't do much for them!

And I just ordered this mascara, Covergirl Super Sizer Mascara. And despite the great price and really good ratings....I am- you guessed it- underwhelmed!!! UGH! I love a big, full, thick mascara brush- and this brush is definitely on the skinnier side. I think it will be a great mascara to use on top of another mascara....especially to help with separating and defining my lashes- but it is definitely not going to be my go-to mascara.
Soooo....I need to know- what is your favorite mascara?? Do you have issues like me and are constantly searching for THE.BEST.MASCARA?? HA!

Thanks in advance for your help with this very urgent matter :)

Hope you have the BEST day!!

  1. Thanks for sharing! I'm going shopping with my sister in law tonight & new mascara is actually on my list! Thanks!

  2. My all time fave is Maybelline Lash Sensation. It is kind of wet at first, but gives really good volume and definition. Sometimes I top it with a drier mascara like Great Lash to get any random clumps....but most of the time it is great on its own!

  3. You did get that right!! His cousin, Daniel, said it's the best "drug store" mascara you can buy =)
Check out this link where he talks about Drugstore makeup!

Yesterday he posted a picture on Instagram of him and Reese Witherspoon and I am sooo jealous. He leads an exciting life in NYC, but he's still super down to earth and hasn't forgotten where he came from. If that makes sense?! haha Have a great day Justine!

  5. I may have to try Johannah's friends, cousins, brothers, uncles, sisters recommendation :) I stick to my Maybelline in the pink bottle, but always up for something new!

  6. I am also a makeup and mascara junkie! My all time favorite that I always go back to is Loreal Voluminous. I have tried Falsies and Supersizer and thought they were ok, but probably won't buy again. My lashes are pretty long, so I am usually looking for volume when I put mascara on. I will have to try the Loreal Collagen. If I am feeling like spending some money, there are several Clinique mascaras that are awesome and Benefit's They're Real is great too.

  7. I have tried so many mascaras (like most women!) and I ALWAYS go back to loreal voluminous. I just love it--the bottle, the brush, the consistency of the mascara. Something that came in a close second recently is it cosmetics new mascara. It came in a kit and I really liked it. But by itself it's pretty expensive, so I'm back to my loreal and so happy! :)

    1. So- I am sold on getting some L'Oreal Voluminious! Thanks so much for the tip! And I am SO intrigued by the IT Cosmetics line! I really want to try their CC cream and their foundation...it is just a bit too pricey for me!

    2. You've got to try the it cosmetics in a kit from qvc. Usually one item (like a fabulous brush) makes the kit worth the price. And you can do easy pay so you can spread your payments out over 3-4 months. It is by far the best way to try this line of makeup!

  8. Loreal Voluminous is my favorite, I have tried several other Loreal as well and they are fine but I always go back to the Voluminous.

  9. Loreal Voluminous!!! Hands down. It's as good as the 48 dollar department store brand my sister left at my house one time that I not only didn't return but used until it was dry. I'm serious, if loving mascara is wrong, I don't want to be right. Voluminous is the absolute best and super cheap. It has to be the original, though. On the bottom shelf usually below the newer ones. The classic gray tube with gold top. Nothing fancy but it just works so well. It gets really good after the first few applications.

  10. I'm going to have to try out some of your favorites the next time I'm out of mascara. I've used and loved Covergirl Professional Super Thick Lash for many years. I use the regular and waterproof version. Lots of layers - amen to layering the mascara!! I read somewhere that Taylor Swift does that, too, so we're in good company :) I usually do several coats of the regular and then finish it off with a layer of waterproof to help things set for the day. I am 100% with you on doing my makeup almost every day. My day feels off if I skip that and I'm in a funk :)

  11. I am a makeup junkie like you and hands down the best mascara is Loreal Telescopic. I watch a ton of beauty YouTube videos and it was highly recommended. I just bought the Loreal Volumous recently and it doesn't compare to the telescopic!
