Weekly Walmart Finds: Splurge Vs. Steal Edition!

Hi! Happy Wednesday!!
Hope you are having a great week so far!!

It is all about weekly Walmart finds here on the blog today and I put a fun little spin on it!
Splurge versus Steal!  I took some popular fashion items for this fall/winter and found them at a higher price and then at Walmart.com, for a lower price!  I think you will be pleasantly surprised when you see the comparison between the higher end item and Walmart's "version."

Let's start wit this chunky knit infinity scarf from Old Navy. I actually own this scarf in two different colors and I love it! At $17- I definitely think it is a slight exaggeration to call it a "splurge," but still- with tax you are looking at paying $20 for a scarf...which, to me, at least, is a solid chunk of change.
Now check out this chunky knit infinity scarf from Walmart!  How gorgeous is this color? I LOVE the colors they have available in this scarf and here is where it becomes a total steal- it is $7.97!! For all of you who are mathematically challenged like myself, that's a $9 difference! Which means you can get another one of these scarves and it's the same price as buying one Old Navy scarf.  YAY!  Side note- I think these would make lovely teacher/friend/sister/scarf exchange gifts for Christmas!!

Plaid is really popular right now.  So are cute vests.
This red buffalo check quilted vest from J.Crew is SO popular that it is currently sold out! At $138- people must REALLY love this vest! HA! I personally can't get on board with spending that much on a vest...so I went to see if I could find something similar at Walmart!
(If you really wanted to get this vest from J.Crew- and are open to a different color combination- this navy/white plaid version is really cute! and you can take 30% off your order with the code: LAYERUP)

Jackpot! Check out this vest from Walmart!  It actually comes in several cute patterns and here is the best part- it is only $12.88 and the red buffalo check pattern is IN STOCK! How cute would this vest look with a cream, white or black tunic, some dark skinny jeans and some cute flats? Or a denim button down shirt or tunic, black leggings and some tall boots?? SO CUTE (and affordable)!!

Booties are huge this fall/winter season and
while I am still not convinced I can personally pull them off,
I LOVE the look of them and always think other woman look so good wearing them!
The other day, when I was browsing Nordstrom's website I came across these super cute Sam Edelman Belted Chelsea Bootie. I really liked the strap detail and the two-tone brown color! Then I saw the price and my excitement definitely went down a couple notches...this cute pair of booties is going to cost you $139.95.  While Sam Edelman is great brand and makes really high quality shoes...I just can't swing that kind of price tag on a pair of booties!

Well imagine my surprise and excitement when I came across these Multi-Strap Boots today while I was browsing the Walmart site! I actually prefer the more pointed toe on this boot and the tiny stud detailing on the straps! And for $24.97 (!!)- well that is a TOTAL steal!!

I am a big fan of dressing in fairly "plain" outfits, but then spicing them up with fun, statement jewelry.  This beautiful necklace by Stella and Dot totally caught my eye! I love the pastel colors and crystals in the necklace and think it would look SO pretty paired with a black or cream tunic top or a camel colored sweater!  At $98 though, it unfortunately is just a smidge out of my price range :(

Did you know Walmart carries a great selection of affordable statement necklaces? I have bought 3 different necklaces from Walmart and seriously love them all!  I was SO excited to find this statement necklace that looks so similar to the more expensive version Stella and Dot version! I will be honest and say I do prefer the silver tone of the Stella and Dot necklace.  However, I actually like the color of the stones in the Walmart version better! And what I like the most is that this necklace is $10!! Yay! :)

And there you have it! I seriously had so much fun finding higher end pieces I really liked and then searching for a lower priced, similar item on Walmart.com.  I am definitely one of those people who loves to "hunt" for bargains :)

Of course, there are certain pieces in your closet that warrant a splurge- the perfect pair of black dress pants, a special cashmere sweater, those tall, leather boots you have wanted for several years now.  But- I also think it is important to be a smart shopper and not automatically assume that you need to pay a higher price for an "on-trend" item.  It doesn't take long at all to do a little comparison shopping!  And the little time spent is SO worth it when you end up saving a significant amount of money!

What do you think?  Do you typically stick to higher end brands because you "trust" them? Would you be willing to try out any of these items from Walmart?
Let me know!!

Hope you all have an AWESOME day!

  1. Love this. I may have to check out those red plaid vests. They are too cute! Also, I think you may have mentioned this before, but where do you get your girls' hair bows? I recently found out I'm having a girl and am on the lookout for super cute and reasonably priced bows. :)

  2. I saw those boots on a blog or something last week and looked online but couldn't find them :( Maybe I'll try the store. I am going to order that buffalo plaid vest and another cute cargo vest. Fun finds!
